During his collegiate days, Kevin Ferrer always brought a certain swag to the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers. He always brought an uncanny confidence with him every time he stepped on the court that drove his opponents crazy.
Sunday afternoon, the former King Tiger was selected by the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings in the special Gilas Draft, reuniting him with former UST players Jervy Cruz and Aljon Mariano. “Barangay Ginebra is Barangay Ginebra e. May attitude din na Never Say Die like ng tinuro sa amin ni coach Pido dati:Â makipagpatayan ka pag dating sa laro ng basketball,” he said moments after being drafted.
Being a rookie on a loaded Ginebra line-up, the 23-year old though is not expecting much playing time under coach Tim Cone in his first year of duty. Even with this expectation, he looks forward to learn everything he can absorb from the legendary head coach.
“Basta kung ano lang ibigay ni coach Tim na role gagawin ko talaga yun. Kasi yun lang naman talaga ang kailangan ng team e,” he furthered.
Moreover, the audience might no longer see the tongue-wagging, trash-talking Ferrer as he moves on to the next stage of his basketball career.
“Sa tingin ko si coach babaguhin niya yung mga mali ko or yung maturity ko i-improve niya. Sana makuha ko yun.”
He is doing this little things so that he can help his new team win back-to-back crowns, vowing his full commitment to the Barangay.
“Meron na silang heart of a champion. So ako gusto ko talaga sila matulungan makuha yung back-to-back championship or hindi lang back-to-back,” the Gilas cadet shared.
“Ibibigay ko yung commitment ko sa team na ‘to and masaya ako na ito na yung bagong tahanan ko.”
