Eya Laure, Cess Robles showcase hastened maturity in Chery Tiggo streak

Chery Tiggo has been on the winning side of things for its past five games in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference.

And that streak, including the latest win in the form of a five-set escape against Cignal, 17-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14 on Tuesday has boosted the confidence of the Crossovers, most especially their young guns.

The winning run began on October 31 with a straight sets win against Gerflor, before beating Petro Gazz, NXLED, PLDT, and the HD Spikers.

“Of course, yung confidence na nabibigay sa amin sa bawat panalo na nagagawa namin every game syempre kumbaga yung doubt sa sarili nababawasan yan,” said Eya Laure, who is in her second conference in the professional ranks.

“Siyempre ilan din kaming mga bago so ngayon, nakikita na kung ano yung pinaghihirapan namin for the past few months. Nakakatuwa lang kasi nagbubunga siya, nakikita namin kung ano yung pinaghihirapan namin,” added the 24-year-old wing spiker, who unloaded 26 points on 21 attacks, three blocks, and two aces along with 11 digs.

This fifth straight win was remarkable as they defeated a veteran Cignal side that has reigning MVP Ces Molina, reigning Best Setter Gel Cayuna, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Riri Meneses, and Rose Doria among many other weapons.PVL-AFC-Cignal-vs.-Chery-Tiggo-Cess-Robles-6956 Eya Laure, Cess Robles showcase hastened maturity in Chery Tiggo streak News PVL Volleyball - philippine sports news

For Cess Robles, who came off the bench but proceeded to become a big part of Chery Tiggo’s triumph, this win against the HD Spikers should gauge what level they are in now.

At 7-1, the Crossovers are at solo second with third-running Choco Mucho (6-1) playing against F2 Logistics as of press time.

“Sa akin sobrang importante siya kasi sabi nga ni Coach Kungfu (Reyes), tingnan namin kung saan kami ngayon and hindi yun basta-basta lang. Parang anong tawag doon? Malayo pa pero malayo na,” said the Ilongga spiker, who contributed 18 points and nine excellent receptions.

Waiting for Chery Tiggo will be three games that would further test its mettle, facing F2 Logistics on Saturday, Creamline next Tuesday, and Choco Mucho on December 2 in Iloilo, a homecoming for Robles.

That’s why after this victory, it’s back to square one for the Crossovers.

“Balik lang ulit sa training. Yun ulit training ulit bukas.”
