How the tides have turned.
Former Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 commissioner Eric Altamirano is set to be named as the tournament director of PBA 3×3.
Altamirano will reportedly formalize the deal with his former Alaska boss Dickie Bachmann next week. Bachmann is the chairman of PBA 3×3.
“It’s a no-brainer to choose him.
“He’s experienced in running the 3×3. I guess I will learn from him and the PBA in running the 3×3 so it makes sense to actually hire someone to handle everything on 3×3. It’s a big advantage for us to hire him,” said Bachmann as he will be joined by SBP 3×3 head Ronnie Magsanoc in the meeting.
Altamirano, 54, was the founding commissioner of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 from 2019-20. Under his watch, the first-of-its-kind league held four conferences – including one for 2020.
Altamirano also served as lead trainer of the league’s house team Pasig Chooks, and later on Zamboanga City Chooks.
The PBA champion coach suddenly resigned from Chooks 3×3 in the midst of the 2020 President’s Cup. His resignation went into effect on November 1.
Besides being commissioner of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3, Altamirano’s International Basketball Academy of the Philippines was the supplier for the league.
The PBA 3×3 will follow the same format as the FIBA 3X3 World Tour.
With the diaspora of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 players to the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft, the league will have no. 1 Joshua Munzon, no. 2 Alvin Pasaol, no. 5 Troy Rike, no. 6 Santi Santillan, and no. 8 Franky Johnson. Also in the PBA right now are no. 10 Roosevelt Adams (Terrafirma) and no. 13 Aris Dionisio (Magnolia).
