Ebon hopes FEU continues momentum after nailing first win

Far Eastern University team captain Lycha Ebon is hoping that the Lady Tamaraws can sustain their winning form after beating University of the East for their first win in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament.

“Iniisip ko lang na ‘pag nanalo kami, sana tuloy tuloy na yung panalo namin,” said Ebon moments after the team’s five-set victory against the Lady Red Warriors.

FEU suffered a deflating sweep against University of Sto. Tomas to open its Season 84 campaign but managed to put up a decent outing in its five-set loss against the unbeaten University of the Philippines last Saturday.

The Lady Tamaraws then finally broke into the win column after escaping the gutsy UE, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 17-25, 15-10 in a five-set affair at the Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday afternoon. The team, who was already a set away from the victory, crumbled in the fourth set which sent the game to a decider.

Still, FEU’s fighting spirit prevailed in the fifth set, unleashing a 10-2 blast to end the game.

“Sabi ko magtulungan na lang sa loob ng court,” said Pascua. “Then yun at the end of the day pagka nag-tututlungan, sinasabi ko lang din follow instruction lang lagi.

“‘Yun lang message ko sa kanila, then ‘yun ‘yung fighting spirit kailangan kahit anong laban nila push pa rin dapat.”

“Yun yung sabi samin ni coach, ‘pag nanalo tayo tuloy tuloy na ‘yan. Siguro nawala lang kami nung fourth set but still, nandoon pa rin yung fighting spirit ng isa’t isa na gusto naming manalo talaga,” chimed the 22-year-old Ebon.

Down by three points, Ebon did her magic from the service line, unloading heavy services which led to the team’s huge rally in the end game that sealed the Lady Tamaraws their first win of the season.

With that elusive victory finally at their hands, Ebon is hopeful that the young FEU can build from this moving forward.

“Hindi po kasi kailangan ko po i-compose yung sarili ko. Kasi ‘pag nawala ako, ‘pag kinabahan ako ‘di ko mapapasok yung service. Cinocompose ko lang po yung sarili ko.”
