The bond between FEU-Diliman’s Dwyne Miranda, Kirby Mongcopa, Veejay Pre, and Jedric Daa has been strong.
And it became stronger when one of the four amigos went down during the off-season.
A couple of months ago, Mongcopa, who averaged 12.39 points, 10.17 rebounds, 3.06 assists, 2.17 steals, and 1.5 blocks during FEU-Diliman’s golden campaign, figured in a motorcycle accident in Dumaguete that fractured his right leg.
The blue-collar Grade 11 forward will miss the entire UAAP Season 86 Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
With their friend out, Baby Tamaraws skipper Miranda said that they are fighting for Mongcopa.
“Itong season na ito para sa kanya,” said the son of Tamaraws head coach Denok after leading FEU-D to a 76-72 victory over De La Salle-Zobel on Tuesday.
Mongcopa though has remained active on the sidelines for FEU-D.
“Marami pa rin siyang contribution sa team. Tsaka tinutulungan niya kami sa kung ano yung di namin nakikita sa court,” said Miranda.
“Assistant coach namin siya,” quipped Baby Tamaraws head coach Allan Albano.
Albano shared that they would also not leave Mongcopa behind.
“Di na aabot talaga. Hindi naman ito yung preparation ni Kirby not for high school but for college. He is programmed for college.”
