The Philippines completed a sweep of the 2015 SEABA Championship after an 82-56 beating of host team Singapore Friday night at the OCBC Arena, Singapore.
Marcus Douthit asserted his might, finishing with 16 points and 7 rebounds while hitting all but one of his 8 field goal attempts. The 6-foot-10 tower added 2 blocked shots as the Gilas cadets went 5-0 throughout the tournament.
With the gold medal finish, the Philippines gained an outright entry to the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in China later this year. The tournament will serve as a qualifer for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
Kiefer Ravena provided the ample help, chipping in 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The game was still close before the Philippines ran over Singapore in the second frame where they outscored their foes, 25-11 for a comfortable 51-30 halftime advantage.
The squad never looked back and sealed the deal. The Philippines dominated the battle inside the paint, outscoring Singapore 58-12. The team also forced 21 turnovers which led to 20 extra points.
Jio Jalalon had an impressive line as well, finishing with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals in less than 15 minutes of play.
