DLSU Lady Tennisters dispatch UP counterparts, return to winning form

After a hard-fought 2-3 loss against UST and their disastrous 0-5 fall against National University, the ladies of the DLSU Lady Tennisters were out to change the tide of their successive losses as they faced the UP Lady Maroons on January 25. Thankfully for the Taft-based squad, fate seemed to have favored them as they returned to their winning form by dispatching their Katipunan counterparts, 3-2.

DLSU’s singles competitors shined brightly in their match against UP. Rachelle de Guzman, bouncing from her defeat the day before, obliterated UP’s Charmaine Valdez, 6-1, 6-2. Her efforts were soon followed by Marinel Rudas who also dispatched her UP counterpart, Nicole Eugenio, 6-1, 6-3. Nikki Arandia also stood her ground against UP’s Kim Sotelo to come out as the victor in the day’s only three-set match, 4-6, 5-7, 4-6, in the women’s category.

Contrary to the successes brought by their singles comrades, DLSU’s doubles tandems experienced difficulty as the duo of Princess Castillo and Lynette Palasan ultimately fell against UP’s Sarah Lim and Medelene Ramos in a 6-3, 6-0 match. The defeat of the Castillo-Palasan duo was soon followed by the loss of their fellow doubles allies Jenni Dizon and Janina Luis who bowed down against UP’s Moira Velicaria and Monica Banez, 6-0, 6-3.
