DLSU Lady Shuttlers takes solo 4th with win over UST



Prior to this match, the De La Salle University Lady Shuttlers and the University of Santo Tomas Golden Shuttlers both had a 3 win 2 loss slate with DLSU holding 4th place due to match wins. The DLSU Lady Shuttlers would come back from a 1st match loss to win the next 3 games to gain more leverage over UST in the standings.

Women’s Singles Match 1: Ana Patricia Barredo (UST) def. Aires Amor Montilla (DLSU); 2:0
DLSU 0 – 1 UST

Ana Patricia Barredo, the most feared singles shuttler in the UST line-up, continued her mastery of this sport. In this match-up against Aires Montilla, she would impose an insurmountable 14-6 lead in the first set that would eventually lead to her winning the game 21-12. The 2nd set would see 7 ties and the game going to advantage points. It was Barredo however who would take the game and the match with a score of 23-21.

Alyssa Leonardo won the 1st set 21-19 against Airish Macalino. During this set, the game would be tied at 11 just after the 11th point break. Leonardo would then grab an 18-15 lead before winning the set at 21-19. The 2nd game would be as close as the 1st set. With Macalino leading 19-17 late in the set, Leonardo would rally 4 straight points to tie thing up at 1 match apiece for DLSU and UST.

The tandem of Montilla and Salatan would be in a tight game against Barredo and Aquino in the 1st game. With the game tied at 17-all, Aires Montilla would will her team in the final stretch of the set to score 4 points and win the first set 21-17. The 2nd set would be a romping with the Lady Shuttlers from Taft winning the set 21-16 to give DLSU a 2-1 lead.

Women’s Doubles Match 2: Monica Rivera and Alyssa Leonardo (DLSU) def. Airish Macalino and Victoria Vizmonte (UST); 2:0
DLSU 3 – 1 UST (DLSU wins)

With the score tied at 16-all in the first set, Monica Rivera would will her team to score 5 straight points to win the 1st set in their match-up against Airish Macalino and Victoria Vizmonte 21-16. The 2nd set would see the tandem from Espana take an early 6-2 lead. Monica Rivera and Alyssa Leonardo would however run-away with the game with the score at 20-16 before closing the game at 21-19. With this match-win, the DLSU Lady Archers now have the solo 4th place in the team standings.

Women’s Singles Match 3: Steffie Aquino (UST) def. Danica San Ignacio (DLSU); 2:1
DLSU 3 -2 UST (DLSU wins)

The 1st set would see Danica San Ignacio take a huge 15-8 lead during the start of the 1st set. Aquino would then rally back to tie the game at 20 to extend the 1st game into advantage points. It was Aquino, with all the momentum she got from her comeback, winning the game 25-23. San Ignacio would blow-out a tired Steffie Aquino in the 2nd set with a 21-5. Steffie Aquino would get her legs back in the deciding set and win the match 21-17.
