7-0 – The defending champions De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Paddlers’record to end the first round of the UAAP Season 77 Table Tennis Tournament held at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.
DLSU vs UE (1-0)
DLSU started their campaign against the University of the East (UE). The match paced DLSU’s dominant performance. DLSU would grab the win behind Yatco, scoring 3-2, over UE’s Soriano. Ledesma would continue DLSU’s winning ways by beating Ramos, 3-0. The lone doubles match would be won, 3-0 by Garganian and Yu. DLSU wins the series 3-0
DLSU vs NU (2-0)
The Paddlers continued their dominance by defeating their next opponents National University (NU), 3-0. Ledesma and F. Gargarnian would defeat their opponents 3-0, and 3-1 respectively. E. Garganian and Yu would win their doubles match over Carrasco and Villamor, cementing the Paddlers win.
DLSU vs UST (3-0)
The Taft based squad would have a scare when they dropped their first set to the many-time champions from Espana, The University of Santo Tomas (UST), 2-3. Down a set DLSU would rally and win the next 3 games. The Paddlers wins the series 3-1.
After the rally the Paddlers would not look back as they sweep the rest of the competition. They would return the next day and defeat The University of the Philippines (UP), Adamson University (AdU), and the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) without losing a single set.
DLSU vs UP (4-0)
DLSU’s Ledesma started their 2nd day with a win over UP’s Borja, 3-0. DLSU’s Cristobal would be forced to win in 5 rounds against UP’s Chua, 3-2. Again, the duo of Garganian and Yu would end the match without losing to their opponents.
DLSU vs AdU (5-0)
DLSU would sweep AdU, garnering 3-0 score lines across the board. Yatco and Ledesma cruised for a win in their respective matches against Enal and Octavo. The lone doubles match showcased DLSU’s Gargarnian and Yu’s prowess, again, outmatching AdU’s pair.
DLSU vs ADMU (6-0)
The Paddlers went against the win-less Ateneo de Manila University and would win in convincing fashion. It would again be Ledesma and Yatco cruising against their opponents, giving DLSU 3-0, and 3-1 wins respectively. Salis and Ruiz would represent DLSU in their doubles match-up. They would win 3-1 against ADMU’s doubles pair.
DLSU vs FEU (7-0)
The Paddlers faced the FEU Tamaraws in to end their first-round campaign. J Cristobal represented the Paddlers in the first singles match. He would have a hard time in the first 2 sets, but would eventually defeat FEU’s Igno, 3-1. Ledesma for his match, breezed through his opponent, Dalut to a 3-0 win. The double’s match would go down to a 5th and deciding set, where they would eventually grab the 3-2 win.
The Paddlers would go home undefeated in the 1st round.
