DJ Laconsay makes the jump from MCU to NU

National University has secured another standout from UCAL.

A couple of years after acquiring UCAL Season 5 Finals MVP Lenard Santiago, the Bulldogs have landed another promising prospect in Manila Central University’s athletic forward, DJ Laconsay.

Laconsay’s agent, Ronald Dadivas, confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.

The 6-foot-4 Fil-Canadian forward made a strong impression in UCAL during his lone season with the Supremos, showcasing his versatility and athleticism. The 21-year-old averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals, and 1.9 assists in 12 games.

According to Dadivas, Laconsay’s journey to the UAAP took an unconventional path, but the timing worked in his favor.

“Most importantly, this is a huge move because DJ is the missing piece for NU, especially with (Jolo) Manansala and (Jake) Figueroa graduating this year,” said Dadivas, adding that Laconsay is grateful for the opportunity given to him by MCU head coach Ian Racela.

Laconsay will have to serve a one-year residency before being eligible to play in UAAP Season 89. However, he still has two years of eligibility remaining.

“Hopefully, DJ will have a huge impact on the team as a rookie with two more years of eligibility,” Dadivas added.
