TAGAYTAY CITY, CAVITE — In front of a roaring crowd here, Filipina skateboarders Margie Didal and Christiana Means secured a top two finish for the Philippines in the women’s Game of S.K.A.T.E event of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Wednesday at the TICC Sigtuna Hall.
Didal — the reigning Asian Games champion — defeated Nyimas Cinta of Indonesia, while Means won her battle against Kyandran Susanto, also of Indonesia, in the semifinal round to forge an all-Filipino face-off in the Finals.
“We’re just having fun, we’re just having fun,” Didal said about facing her teammate and roommate Means.
Despite their slow start in the semis, the two managed to crawl their way back and pull the upset rugs out from under their respective opponents.
Meanwhile, in the men’s division, Daniel Lederman bested Singapore’s Muhammad Feroze Abdul Rahman to the semifinals.
Unfortunately, though, Filipino skateboarder Jeffrey Gonzales fell to 12-year-old Basral Hutomo from Indonesia in the quarterfinals.
Both the women’s final and men’s semifinals will take place on Thursday, December 4.
