Defending Champions NU dominates UP, starts tournament right

Entering the hard courts of the Olivarez Sports Center last January 11, the National University ladies tennis team wasted no time in declaring their dominance as they easily dispatch the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons with a 4-1 victory.

Leading the National University’s powerful charge were none other than the daughters of PBA legend Alvin Patrimonio. Chritine Patrimonio fired the first shots as she quickly dispatches UP’s Monica Cortez in a stunning 6-2, 6-1 match only to be followed by sister Clarice who also dispatches her assignment, Nicoloe Eugenio, in a 6-3, 6-1 finish. The siblings were flanked by fellow singles competitor Hannah Espinosa who also defeats Up’s Kim Sotelo in a double 6-1 match.

The doubles team of Canja and Polito also joins their comrades as they also dispatch their assignment, Bañez and Velicaria, in a 6-2, 6-1 match up. The duo of Penados and Nagret, however, fails to extend NU’s sweep as they fall to UP’s Lim and Ramos in a 1-6, 3-6 match.

The loss of UP leaves them winless as they exit the first weekend of the UAAP Tennis Championship after their first day loss to UAAP Tennis powerhouse UST.
