The transfer of Phil and James Younghusband from FC Meralco Manila to upstart Davao Aguilas was formalized Wednesday evening at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel.
“We are happy to welcome Phil and James into our club. Both are quality players and fine gentlemen that will blend well into our club and represent Davao Aguilas with utmost professionalism,” said Aguilas chairman Jefferson Cheng as the club signed the former faces of the Meralco franchise to five-year deals.
The Younghusband brothers came to Philippine shores back in 2005 which was also the same year they started to represent the country. It was in 2011 where the Filipino-English siblings were signed to play for Meralco in the defunct United Football League.
Besides the Younghusband brothers, the Mindanao-based squad also presented its new acquisitions Simone Rota, Jason de Jong, Matthew Hartmann, and Nick O’ Donnell.
“Our fans and supporters are equally excited about our new signings,” Cheng furthered. “I am sure they will contribute not only to Davao Aguilas, but also help us succeed in our vision to promote and advance Philippine football.”
As of Wednesday night, the Davao Aguilas are situated at seventh place in the inaugural season of the Philippines Football League with just five points.
Phil and James Younghusband are set to make their Davao debuts on Saturday, September 9 when the Aguilas host Global-Cebu in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
