The bad blood between Converge and NorthPort continued in their second-round encounter in the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup.
During the post-game pleasantries of the match – which saw the FiberXers eke out a 107-99 victory – Batang Pier governor Erick Arejola was seen fuming and had to be restrained by his players.
Tiebreaker Times sources revealed that Arejola and FiberXers assistant coach Danny Ildefonso had a heated exchange after the game.
It did not escalate further as both men were separated and brought back to the dressing room of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
When asked about the incident, Arejola and Ildefonso politely declined to comment.
It is well-known that Ildefonso and NorthPort have had a strained relationship, especially after his son, Dave, failed to reach a contract agreement with the Batang Pier.
Dave was the fifth overall pick in the 2024 PBA Rookie Draft.
Danny previously made comments on social media, accusing NorthPort of being a “farm team,” for which the former league MVP was fined P20,000.
As of now, Dave and NorthPort remain at an impasse.
Further adding to NorthPort’s frustration was Converge’s import attempting a shot late in their Wednesday encounter, which may have added fuel to the fire.
