Arthus Bucay was not to be denied Friday afternoon during the C5 Individual Pursuit 4000M of the 2018 Asian Para Games.
Figuring in a heated race against hometown favorite Sufyan Saori, the 38-year-old was able to find an extra gear late to nab gold for Team Pilipinas at the Jakarta International Velodrome in Indonesia.
The win lifted the Philippines’ tally to nine golds, seven silvers, and 11 bronzes to barge into the top 10.
Arthus, who figured in an accident back in 2013 which required an operation that left him with unproportioned legs, qualified to the finals with a time of 05:20.646. Sufyan topped the heat with 05:13.592.
And it was the two who figured in a tight battle to the finish line that saw Arthus score a come-from-behind victory.
This is Arthus’ second medal in the competition as he finished in third place in the Men’s Time Trial (C5) last October 8.
