Curse is over: After seven straight setbacks, Meralco finally wins in Antipolo

The curse of Antipolo has finally ended for the Meralco Bolts.

Winless at the Ynares Center in seven outings since joining the league in 2010, the Bolts snapped the curse and won under their new coach Norman Black.

Former head coach Ryan Gregorio, who curiously is from Antipolo, failed to give his last PBA team a win in this venue, but for the three-time champion coach, who now works in the television panel, there was something strange happening each time his team played here.

“I just don’t feel something positive is going with me or my team whenever we play here at the Ynares Center,” said Gregorio. “The biggest tragedy I’ve experienced here was seeing Eugene Tejada suffering an accident during our game against Red Bull that eventually ended his career.”

Fast forward to today, the current group of Bolts finally cherished winning one – a big one against Ginebra.

“Meralco has never won in Ynares? So this is Coach Ryan’s home court and they couldn’t win. It’s good to win here. Otherwise, it’s a long ride home,” said Black in the post game interview.
