Cignal remains unbeaten in PVL Reinforced, overpowers Capital 1


Cignal pulled Capital1 down from cloud nine, scoring a 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-13 win to remain undefeated in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Marina Tushova, Jenya Torres, Leila Cruz, and Des Clemente rallied the Solar Spikers back from 17-21 down in the third set, aided by the HD Spikers’ errors, to extend the match, 25-23.

However, Cignal delivered a massive payback in the fourth set, building a 16-8 lead and maintaining it all the way to the win in two hours and nine minutes.

“Medyo nagstruggle lang kami nung third set but good thing nakarecover kami knowing din naman our team, kapag gusto nilang bumawi, gagawin nila ang lahat para maipanalo,” said Cignal head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

The HD Spikers improved to solo first in Pool B with a spotless 3-0 record while pushing down the Solar Spikers to 1-2.

Venezuelan import MJ Perez led Cignal anew with a balanced 23 points on 20 attacks, two aces, and one block, along with 15 excellent receptions and 12 digs.

Ces Molina chipped in 12 points and seven receptions, while Jackie Acuña also had a standout performance with 12 points, including six blocks.

Cignal goes for 4-0 on Thursday against Petro Gazz at 1 p.m. while Capital1 clashes with Choco Mucho at 3 p.m.

The Solar Spikers were paced by Tushova’s 28 points on 27 spikes and a block, but they gave away 29 free points to the opposition due to errors.
