Chris Ross will be out for a few weeks due to the right knee injury he suffered during San Miguel’s PBA Philippine Cup match versus Magnolia last June 17.
This means that the decorated floor general won’t see action when the Beermen take on Barangay Ginebra in a clash of title favorites on Friday.
“He’ll be out for around two to three weeks,” SMB head coach Leo Austria told Tiebreaker Times a day before the duel between the league’s top two teams.
“He won’t be able to play tomorrow against Ginebra.”
The champion coach, though, said that Ross suffered nothing serious as his knee remains intact following an MRI scan after
The 37-year-old playmaker got hurt at the 2:57-mark of the second quarter, when he took off for a lay-up to finish the fastbreak.
He had to be helped out by his teammates on the way to the bench. He was sent to the dugout and then returned to the sidelines, but never played again in the match which San Miguel won, 87-81, to take the solo lead at 3-0.
Ross was actually able to walk on his own after the game at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, and said then that he will still be with the team whether or not he has to sit out for a certain period of time to heal up and recover.
The eight-time champion averaged 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.7 steals in the three games that the Beermen have played thus far.
