After spending a year at Mapúa University, Chris Hubilla is moving on.
The hardworking 6-foot-4 forward and batchmate Lawrence Mangubat will transfer to José Rizal University, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.
One source told Tiebreaker Times that both Hubilla and Mangubat chose the Heavy Bombers due to his strong connection with new head coach Nani Epondulan and assistant coach Paolo Gorospe.
Both coaches were former deputies under Randy Alcantara at Mapúa.
In his lone season with the Cardinals, Hubilla, a 22-year-old forward from Sorsogon, made an immediate impact, averaging 13.0 points, 6.62 rebounds, and 1.71 assists per game.
His stellar performance earned him both Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors.
“Salamat sa Mapúa sa one year, always grateful and thankful,” Hubilla posted on social media Wednesday.
Now, he will have to sit out one season before becoming eligible to play in NCAA Season 102.
He still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Meanwhile, Mangubat, a 20-year-old point guard from Cebu, normed 9.29 points, 4.05 rebounds, 2.38 assists, and 1.0 steals during his freshman year.
Mangubat will still have four years of eligibility beginning in Season 102.
