Gilas Pilipinas will once again have Philippine Basketball Association players for Window 5 of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Chot Reyes will be picking players from two to three PBA teams to be part of his pool for the Philippines’ road games against Jordan and Saudi Arabia from November 10 to 13.
“Tutulong tayo sa fifth window,” PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial told Tiebreaker Times.
“Ang option ni Coach Chot is kumuha ng two to three teams tapos doon kukunin kung sino ang gusto niya sa pool niya.”
Once identified by Reyes, the league will adjust the schedule of the teams selected.
The PBA had wanted to take a two-week break to give Reyes a full pool but upon study, it would have been at the expense of the in-between break before the Governors’ Cup.
Moreover, it would affect the full three-month hiatus of the PBA from May to July next year in preparation for the Worlds.
With the B.League and the Korean Basketball League having a FIBA break, Marcial is also hoping that the overseas imports can come back home to help out the national team as well.
It is still unknown though whether the UAAP will have a break for the window.
Gilas are currently 3-3 in Group E.
