Cholo Villanueva is making his return to the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League as he takes over as the new head coach of Manila.
He begins his new journey with the Stars during the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitational Tournament which begins on December 11.
Villanueva last coached the Makati Super Crunch, but had a falling out with the management of the squad.
After posting a 20-4 win-loss record, Villanueva and his key players from Makati –ex-pros Simon Atkins, Rudy Lingganay, Jeckster Apinan, Juneric Baloria, and Cedric Ablaza, along with Josh Torralba among others – decided not to show up in the team’s game against the Bacoor Strikers in Cebu as a sign of protest to the management, which has gone on a different direction.
Super Crunch management said that they were doing some load management, preventing the key players from playing in the game. Safe to say, it did not sit well with Villanueva and his players.
Villanueva joined the Pampanga Giant Lanterns later on to assist former PBA coach and veteran mentor Bong Ramos.
Villanueva is looking to steer Manila to a breakthrough in the Invitational tournament.
