Chess teams caps spectacular campaign with 2 more golds

Team Pilipinas’ Chess squad in the 2018 Asian Para Games made sure to leave Jakarta, Indonesia with more gold.

After annexing three golds in the standard event, the Philippine Chess Team copped two more in the rapid event, Friday afternoon at the Cempaka Putih in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Filipino golden boy Sander Severino increased his haul to four golds after topping the Men’s Individual Rapid P1 and – together with Henry Lopez and Jasper Rom – took down the team event.

The 33-year-old FIDE Master torched the competition, tallying a 6.0 in seven games played. His team, on the other hand, had a whopping total of 15.5 to blow by the competition.

For his part, Lopez ended up with a silver with a 5.0. Rom completed the podium sweep with a 4.5.

Beside the trio, Arman Subaste ended up with bronze in the Men’s Individual Rapid VI – B2/B3, while the teams of Arman Subaste, Redor Menandro, and Israel Peligroso (B2-B3), and Francis Ching, Rodolfo Sarmiento, and Cecilio Bilog (B1) also unearthed bronze.

Overall, the chess team will bring home five golds, two silvers, and six bronzes.
