University of Santo Tomas has set in motion its recruitment for UAAP Season 86 and beyond.
The Growling Tigers have secured the transfers of Centro Escolar University point guard Franz Diaz and San Sebastian College-Recoletos big man James Una.
Multiple sources confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
Diaz, 23, is a heady 5-foot-9 guard who recently led the Scorpions to the UCBL crown.
During the fifth season of the league, he averaged 9.6 points, 4.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
Having obtained his college diploma, the 23-year-old out of Iloilo City will be eligible to play as a masters student-athlete come UAAP Season 86. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Una, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-5 workhorse.
Una left San Sebastian College-Recoletos early this year and moved to San Beda University to do his residency.
However, he packed his bags on Sunday evening, telling San Beda that he will move to University of Santo Tomas instead.
The 22-year-old out of Caloocan has already played three years with San Sebastian.
Last season, he normed 3.78 points and 3.56 rebounds in NCAA Season 98.
He will have to sit out one year before being activated for UAAP Season 87.
The two are the first key recruits in Pido Jarencio’s return to UST.
