CEBU CITY — University of the Visayas (UV) is just a victory away from reclaiming the throne as it stopped University of Cebu (UC), 90-62, in Game One of the best-of-three finals in the Chooks-to-Go Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Season 22 collegiate basketball tournament on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum here.
UV shot the lights out from beyond the arc in the fourth period to put away UC and put themselves in a position to nab the championship in Game Two on Tuesday.
The Green Lancers were up by just 13, 63-50, early in the fourth period when the basket began looking like a large basin for UV’s players.
Rookie forward Ivo Salarda started the blitz with a triple. Team captain Ted Saga and Albert Sacayan followed suit with four straight trifectas in a scintillating run that put them up by 31, 88-57.
Veteran wingman Jiesel Tarrosa led the way for UV with 21 points and five rebounds, while Sacayan had 16 markers highlighted by five three-pointers.
Saga finished with 15 markers, 13 of which came in the final stanza.
Paul Galinato and Michael Diaz had 10 points apiece for UV, which last won the Cesafi title 12 years ago.
