Gilas Pilipinas will not risk Carl Tamayo in its final game of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers versus South Korea on Sunday.
The 6-foot-7 forward sprained his left ankle against Indonesia last Friday. The injury happened with 7:47 left and Gilas up 59-38 against Indonesia.
The 20-year-old UP Fighting Maroon had 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting in Gilas’ 81-78 win over Korea last Wednesday.
In comes 6-foot-10 Geo Chiu, who had four points and three rebounds against Indonesia.
Also brought in from the Indonesia game is 6-foot-2 combo guard Jordan Heading.
William Navarro, Jaydee Tungcab, and Mike Nieto will also be back after sitting out the Indonesia game.
Completing the squad are Dwight Ramos, Angelo Kouame, Justine Baltazar, Kai Sotto, SJ Belangel, RJ Abarrientos, and Isaac Go.
Joining Tamayo on the sidelines are Javi Gomez de Liaño and Lebron Lopez.
Korea, on the other hand, will still field the same 12 it has had over the past four days.
Gilas is 5-0 in Group A.
