Cardinals nail second win, keep Stags winless

Behind the offense of Anjo Pertierra, the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals rolled to their second win, dumping the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, in the NCAA Season 92 Men’s Volleyball Tournament at the PhilSports Arena.

Pertierra led three Cardinals who scored in double-digits with 17 points. Sam Damian and Alfred Pagulong added 13 and 12 markers, respectively.

“It’s great that we can begin the season with wins. Di tulad last year na we had a few losses to start the season na nahirapan na talaga kaming iangat. Hopefully, we can continue this,” said Mapua head coach Mario Mia.

The match started with the Cardinals taking a commanding early seven point lead, 15-7, in the opening set. After dropping a tight third set, Mapua managed to stave off late San Sebastian runs to take the third and fourth frame.

Skipper Jahir Ebrahim tallied 13 points for the Recto-based spikers, while Christian Colonia added 11 points.

Mapua (2-0) face the College of Saint Benilde Blazers (2-0) on November 23. San Sebastian (0-2) take on the Letran Knights (0-1) on November 25.
