Camille Malagar commits to Ateneo for ‘two-and-thru’ UAAP run

Ateneo de Manila University continues to bolster its roster for the upcoming UAAP Season 88 Women’s Basketball Tournament, securing the commitment of 5-foot-6 Filipino-American guard Camille Malagar.

Malagar, a graduate of NCAA Division III school Christopher Newport University, holds a degree in Marketing.

With that, she will be eligible to play immediately as a master’s student-athlete and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“We’re ecstatic that she’s joining the program. She’ll help stabilize our guard position, having played three years in the States,” said Blue Eagles head coach LA Mumar.

In her senior year, Malagar posted averages of 10.5 points on 35.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc, along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

“The goal is to surround Kacey (Dela Rosa) with quality players—especially guards—who can help us reach the next level,” Mumar added.

Malagar joins a promising rookie class that includes Hannah Lopez, Erica De Luna, and Candice Udal.

With her experience, Mumar believes Malagar will play a key mentorship role during her two-year stay.

“Her shooting will be a great asset and a perfect complement to our team,” he said.

“And during Malagar’s two-year stay at Ateneo, I hope the guards get to learn from her.”
