Calvin Oftana to have MRI on injured left hand

NLEX was dealt a double blackeye during its 100-110 loss to Meralco, Friday evening at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Besides being dealt their second straight loss to fall to 4-2 in the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup, the Road Warriors also saw their prized rookie Calvin Oftana suffer an apparent left hand injury.

The injury occurred with 7:45 left in the contest.

The third overall pick in last year’s draft swiped the ball from PBA Season 45 top rookie Aaron Black. But as he swiped the ball, Oftana jammed his hands but was still able to finish the breakaway layup.

As he went down the floor to go back on defense, Oftana was already signaling to NLEX’s bench that he hurt his hand.

Oftana was eventually subbed out with 6:04 left, finishing the game with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

According to the San Beda product, he is set to have an MRI tonight, crossing his fingers that the injury is nothing serious.

Oftana has been one of the key cogs for the Road Warriors this conference, averaging 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds prior to their game against the Bolts.
