Calvin Oftana bids San Beda farewell, joins 2021 PBA Draft

Given the uncertainty of the NCAA season, versatile forward Calvin Oftana has decided to take the leap.

Oftana will forego his final year with San Beda University, having chosen to apply for the upcoming 2021 PBA Rookie Draft.

Titan Management Group’s PJ Pilares and Oftana himself shared the development to Tiebreaker Times.

Coming out of two years in Asian College, Oftana moved to San Beda in NCAA Season 92.

His first three years in college saw him play back-up to Javee Mocon, though.

Once Mocon ended his collegiate career, the 6-foot-6 forward took the cudgels for the Red Lions. He averaged 15.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 blocks to win the NCAA Season 95 Most Valuable Player plum.

The native of Dumaguete City was then called up to play for Gilas in the Manama window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. Against Thailand last November 30, Oftana tallied nine points, four rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal in just 15 minutes of game time.

Oftana ended his collegiate career with norms of 5.75 points, 3.87 rebounds, 0.95 assists, and 0.52 blocks in 77 games played.

If a special Gilas Draft takes place on March 14, Oftana will most likely be part of it.
