Buytrago-Requinton, Garcia-Arbasto ousted by AUS in Continental Cup

The Philippine National Men’s Beach Volleyball Team ended its 2018-2020 AVC Continental Cup stint after dropping both of their games against Australia, Friday afternoon.

The Filipino partnership of Jaron Requinton and James Buytrago could not withstand taller Australians Christopher McHugh and Damien Schumann, 11-21, 15-21.

Up by just a point in the first set, the Aussies went on a 7-0 blitz to put the game out of reach, 11-3.

In the second salvo, the Philippines showed flashes of brilliance en route to a 12-11 lead midway. Australia had one last run in their bag, though, finishing the match in a rousing 10-3 run.

Meanwhile, the country’s Team 2 of Jude Garcia and Anthony Arbasto forfeited their game against Australia’s Team 2 of Maximilian Guehrer and Zachery Schubert.

Garcia suffered an injury during the opening moments of the second set.

With Australia on top, 6-2, play stopped as Garcia needed medical attention on his  left knee. Play eventually resumed with Garcia’s knee patched up.

But with the score at 12-4, the match was forfeited as Garcia’s knee continued to trouble him.
