There will be a shuffling in the ranks at Northport and Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
Decorated champion coach Bonnie Tan is set to take over as Batang Pier head coach starting in the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup which begins on January 22.
Tempo was the first to report the development while multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
Tan served as interim head coach of Northport for three games in the 2021 Philippine Cup, going 3-0.
He replaces Pido Jarencio, who will take over as team manager of the team.
Jarencio, 58, was the head coach of the Mikee Romero-owned franchise since 2013.
In 12 conferences coached, he compiled a 47-78 elimination round record and 4-11 in the playoffs.
His best outing as Northport head coach was during the 2019 Governors’ Cup when he steered the team to the semis.
With regards to Letran, Tan has recommended lead assistant Rensy Bajar to succeed him, according to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation.
Tan’s shoes will be tough to fill, though.
In every season he coached the Knights, Tan guided the team to the championship.
The UST product had a 34-11 elimination round slate in Letran and 10-2 in the playoffs.
Bajar will be up to the task, however. As a head coach, he guided Diliman College to two UCBL championships.
