The report has been denied by the school and the team’s management.
Bo Perasol will no longer be the one calling the shots for University of the Philippines’ Men’s Basketball Team.
This as the 49-year-old mentor was not renewed by the school last June 10 along with the entire coaching staff of the team, according to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation.
The only one that will remain is Mo Gingerich.
The school though is working on giving Perasol a managerial position, like the title of head of basketball operations.
After three years in Ateneo, Perasol went back home to UP after UAAP Season 78 in May of 2016.
With him steering the wheel, there was nowhere to go but up for the Fighting Maroons.
In Season 79, UP went 5-9 before going 6-8 a year later.
During his third year at the help, UP ended a 32-year Finals drought in Men’s Basketball. Finishing third after the elimination round with an 8-6 slate, the Fighting Maroons slayed the twice-to-beat armed Adamson in the Final Four to earn the right to face Ateneo.
The Blue Eagles then swept the Fighting Maroons. Still, it was the turning point of the program that has now become a hotbed for blue-chip recruits.
In his final year, UP ended in third place. It finished the elims with a 9-5 record but bowed to University of Santo Tomas despite holding a twice-to-beat advantage.
