Wish granted for Michael Calisaan
The athletic 6-foot-4 forward celebrated his 23rd birthday in the best way possible, as he and Che’lu-San Sebastian Revellers scored a big victory over favorites Zark’s-Lyceum Jawbreakers, 97-88, Tuesday at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
“Masaya ako siyempre. Birthday ko tapos nanalo kami sa Lyceum pa,” said Calisaan, who has been vocal in wanting to win one over Lyceum — the thorn in their side in NCAA Season 93 and in the PCCL.
“Nanalo kami kasi nagtulong-tulong kami, sumunod kami sa game plan ni coach. Yun lang.”
Furthermore, according to Calisaan, the win was made possible by the way Che’lu took advantage of situations. Zark’s played without slotman Mike Nzeusseu due to ankle issues, and the Revellers exploited this lack.
“Kung anong advantage namin, dun kami pumupunta.
“Like kanina, wala yung import nila, so yung mga big man namin yun yung binibigyan namin,” he said, as center Alfred Batiño became their leader with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
However, Calisaan couldn’t really be happy even with the big win.
Calisaan wasn’t able to finish the match, as he left with just 8:22 remaining in the third canto, no thanks to an elbow injury that led to him having to leave the venue in an arm sling. He finished with 13 markers and eight boards.
“Nainjured ako pero okay lang yun, part yun ng basketball eh,” he said. “Kasi yung basketball naman, physical sport yan eh. Anytime pwede ka masaktan. Tanggap ko… Ngayon papa-check muna, papa-x-ray. Hopefully makalaro next game.”
Still, he and Che’lu are on a high right now. They have ,extended their winning streak to three, and are keen on winning their last three elimination round games as they now aim for a spot in the 2018 D-League Aspirants’ Cup semis.
“Gagawin namin lahat para maipanalo pa yung tatlong laro namin na natitira sa eliminations,” said Calisaan.
“Gustong-gusto ko yun kasi napakalaking advantage na ‘pag nasa semis.”
