Binky Favis added to UP’s loaded brain trust

University of the Philippines has added another decorated coach to its already loaded staff.

The Fighting Maroons have brought in Binky Favis to join Goldwin Monteverde’s brain trust.

The incumbent councilor in the second district of Parañaque was present during UP’s 2026 Asiabasket NSAC game against Ateneo on Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Favis brings over three decades of coaching experience.

He began his career at the young age of 24, serving as part of the late Aric Del Rosario’s coaching staff from 1993 to 1997.

Favis then became the head coach of MBA club Batangas in 1998 before taking the reins at Letran from 1999 to 2001, where he won the NCAA Season 75 championship.

He later moved to the professional ranks, serving as an assistant coach for Pop Cola, Coca-Cola, and Ginebra. He eventually returned to Coca-Cola, this time as head coach from 2005 to 2008.

After stepping away from basketball to focus on business and politics, Favis is now making his return to the sport this year.
