Vladi Eguia put on a masterclass on the mound, steering the Philippines to a 15-0 shutout of Cambodia to remain perfect in the XII BFA East Asian Cup on Sunday at Baseball Stadium Queen Sirikit Sports Center in Pathum Thani Province in Thailand.
Eguia, a University of the Philippines great, pitched three hitless innings with eight strikeouts.
The rest of the Philippine bullpen followed suit with Raymond Nerosa pitching an inning with a strikeout while Paulo Macasaet closed things out in the fifth, striking out the last three Cambodian batters.
The Philippines rose to solo lead in Group B with a 2-0 record, its first win coming by way of a 21-1 rout of Malaysia on opening day.
Singapore is also holding a 2-0 record — a 6-4 win over Cambodia and a 20-5 rout of Malaysia.
The two squads face off on Monday. Both squads are assured to go to the Super Round.
The Filipino offense also caught fire early, picking up five runs in the very first inning.
First baseman Jonjon Robles once again provided the hits, going 2-of-4 at-bat with three runs and an RBI.
Shortstop Clarence Caasalan also went 2-of-4 at-bat while third baseman Mark Beronilla and right-fielder John Vargas both got two RBIs apiece.
