BFA: Philippines romps Singapore 20-0 to sweep pool phase


The Philippines did not let up to close out its pool phase campaign in the XIII BFA East Asian Cup, routing Singapore, 20-0, in just five innings on Monday at Baseball Stadium Queen Sirikit Sports Center in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

With the win, the Philippines completed a dominant sweep of Pool B after also demolishing Malaysia, 21-1, and Cambodia, 15-0.

The Philippines, along with 2-1 Singapore, will head to the Super Round to face Thailand on Tuesday and Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Romeo Jasmin pitched two innings in the contest, allowing just three hits while fanning two Singaporeans.

Carlos Munoz, Renato Samuel, and Kobe Torres all had their time on the mound as well.

On offense, former UAAP MVP and first baseman Iggy Escano and catcher Steven Manaig went 2-of-3 at-bat which resulted in two RBIs apiece.

Shortstop Lord Aragorn De Vera and centerfielder Erwin Bosito also got two RBIs each as well.

The Philippines peppered the Singaporeans with a total of 16 hits.
