For five years, Bernadeth Pons carried the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the UAAP, capping her run with the Morayta-based program with a Finals appearance in the Season 80 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
Pons was FEU’s leading scorer for all of her five-year stay and was their best backrow player. She was that face that ran the place.
But on Sunday, she will be just one of many spectators curious to see how FEU will fare in the post-Pons era.
The Petron winger, who was instrumental to bringing the Blaze Spikers to the 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Invitational Cup Finals, confirmed that she will be present when the Lady Tams begin their PVL Collgiate Conference campaign.
The Negros Occidental-native was confident that FEU can do fine without her, shrugging off any notion that her presence will be missed.
“Siyempre, ‘yung advice ko lang sa kanila (Lady Tams) palagi nilang laruin ‘yung best nila. Ilabas nila ‘yung kung anong laro nila ‘wag na ‘wag silang matatakot,” shared the 21 year-old.
“Tiwala naman ako sa kanila na kayang-kaya nila.”
If anything, she knows that she’ll have a cathartic feeling, knowing that just a few months ago she was on the same squad.with the current Lady Tamaraws.
“Manonood ako. Parang dati kasama ko sila sa loob tapos bukas papanoorin ko na lang sila. Tapos na eh.”
