The Adamson Lady Falcons continue to pound on the competition as this time, shutting out the University of Santo Tomas Softbelles 12-0 in a mercy rule win last Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Adamson Lady Falcons blitzed the UST Softbelle defense right off the bat. Lead off batter, Queeny Sabobo connected with a single, while an error gave Lorna Adorable first base. The bases were loaded when third batter, Florabele Pabiana, was walked to load up the bases. League leader in RBIs, Annalie Benjamen, secured the first point for the defending champions with a single to right field. Third year Lady Falcon, Angelie Ursabia, then connected with a 2 RBI double to give Adamson a 3-0 lead. Gelyn Lamata hit another single that paved the way for a Benjamen run.UST starting pitcher, rookie Ariellyn Arreglado, secured the first out of the inning with a caught fly by Clariz Palma at center field. However, rookie Riflayca Basa gave Adamson a 5-0 lead courtesy of an RBI single to center field.

With the UST defense giving up five runs and four hits at the top of the first inning, UST head coach Sandy Barredo switched up the pitching duties by substituting Arreglado for rookie Mae Latican. However, the Adamson offense proved too powerful for the Softbelles of España. Queeny Sabobo gained first base after an error, followed by Lorna Adorable who punched in another run for the Lady Falcons off an RBI single. Then, with one out, reigning MVP, Annalie Benjamen, and Angelie Ursabia connected on back-to-back home runs, the first HR a two run homer, to give Adamson a huge 9-0 lead to end the second inning.

The Adamson storm continued at the top of the third inning. A throwing error by UST shortstop, Kristel Angeles, resulted to the UST defense giving up second base to lead batter, Riflayca Basa, while a sacrifice grounder by Krisna Paguican resulted in another run for Adamson. Soon after, RBI singles by Annalie Benjamen and Angelie Ursabia led to runs by Queeny Sabobo, her third for the day, and Florabele Pabiana, her second run. The third inning ended with Adamson going up 12-0.

On the defensive end, the Adamson was outstanding. In the three innings Adamson starting pitcher, Annalie Benjamen pitched, she struck out 5 of the 10 batters, highlighted by a 1-2-3 of Luisse Garde, Shiela Perales, and Lyra Gustilo at the bottom of the second inning. However, the reigning MVP gave up just a single hit, in the third inning. Substitute pitcher, sophomore Baby Jane Raro closed the game at the fourth inning. After giving up a single to Celestine Palma, Raro struck out Cristy Joy Roa for first out. A fly by Mary Luisse Garde was caught at first base, while Palma was putout at second base after a fielder’s choice.

The Adamson offense was led by Queeny Sabobo’s three runs and a hit (1B). Complimenting the effort was Annalie Benjamen with 3 RBIs, two runs and three hits (2 1Bs and an HR).

The Adamson Lady Falcons will put their 55 game winning streak on the line against the UP Lady Maroons on Wednesday, February 25, at 11am, while the UST Softbelles look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, February 28, against the Ateneo Lady Batters at 10am. Both games will still be played at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
