College of Saint Benilde has suffered a major setback in its NCAA Season 101 campaign.
Reigning Most Valuable Player Allen Liwag has been diagnosed with a left shoulder sprain that will keep him out for three to four weeks.
The elimination round of the NCAA ends on November 19, while the play-ins will begin on November 21.
The 6-foot-6 forward has been the Blazers’ driving force this season, leading the team in scoring (15.67 points), rebounding (9.17), and blocks (1.0) per game.
Liwag already missed three games prior to Benilde’s clash against the San Beda Red Lions on Friday due to dengue fever.
With this latest setback, the MVP will also be ineligible for individual awards, having fallen short of the league’s minimum games requirement.
Benilde currently shares the Group B lead in the seniors basketball tournament with a 6-3 record, tied with San Beda.
With Liwag sidelined, Justine Sanchez and Shawn Umali are expected to step up and carry the load for the Blazers in the coming stretch.
