After a rocky start in the opening weekend, the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons kept their bid for a shot at the UAAP Season 77 women’s beach volleyball trophy alive, routing the Ateneo Lady Eagles in three sets, 21-16, 14-21, and 15-10.
UP’s Arylle Magtalas and Hannah Mangulabnan staved off a late rally by Ateneo’s Michelle Morente and Jho Maraguinot, suiting once more in place of regular Alyssa Valdez. A barrage of service aces by Morente would boost Ateneo to an early lead in the second and gain momentum to rally for a 21-14 set to force a third set. The Ateneo spikers however began to lose steam in the deciding quarter. Continuous errors would pile on the points for UP, who would escape with the set, 15-10.

The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses extended their winning run to five games, after routing the University of the Philippines two sets to none, 21-6, and 21-14, on the third game day of the UAAP Season 77 beach volleyball tournament, Wednesday at UE Caloocan.
The hard-hitting duo of Cherry Rondina and Jane Rivera almost effortlessly overpowered UP’s Hannah Mangulabnan and Arylle Magtalas, hitting their 21st point and holding the UP spikers to a mere six points. Rivera and Rondina’s fiery offensive would continue in the opening minutes of the set, but the UP spikers would finally come alive to respond to their opponents’ attacks. UP would bring the score to 13-17, but another fiery rally by the feisty Rondina would push UST to matchpoint.
