Adamson’s Michael Dimayuga and Rence Melgar denied De La Salle University their first win in the men’s beach volleyball tournament, routing La Sallians Levin Dimayuga and Mike Frey in two sets, 24-22, and 21-17.

A hotly contested first set saw each side trade spiker after spike, with neither team gaining on the other by any significant number. After reaching a 22-22 deadlock, Adamson would manage to score on consecutive serves to bag the set, 24-22. Though the second set would prove to be another tough contest for both teams, the La Salle would soon find themselves trailing due to faulty blocking. Dimayuga and Melgar would go on to leave La Salle in the dust, 21-17.

Last year’s runner-ups the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers proved themselves the team to beat, cruising past the still winless De La Salle University Green Spikers in two sets, 21-16, 21-8.

The first substitution of the day would come from La Salle, as rookie Jopet Movido would suit up to replace Mike Frey, who had played in La Salle’s game against Adamson University earlier in the day. The first set would open on a promising note for the Green Spikers, as UST spikers Mark Alfarara and Kris Roy Guzman found themselves giving up point after point due to several errors. However, La Salle’s Dimayuga and Movido would struggle to score from their attacks, and would find themselves trailing soon enough. The fiery Alfarara and Guzman would close out the first set, 21-16. The UST duo would once again be plagued by errors, with uncontrolled spikes causing the ball to fall beyond the line. La Salle’s offense would continue to stganate however. With La Salle unable to score from their own spikes, Guzman and Alfarara would walk away with a 21-8 victory in the set to end UST’s day.

Standing:
UST 5-0
DLSU 0-5

Aggregate score:
UST- 42
DLSU- 24
