Bea De Leon is still uncertain if she will return to for her final year of UAAP playing eligibility.
Speaking with the media, the fiery middle blocker from the Ateneo de Manila University said that she is still mulling over her options and enjoying her downtime after a hectic Season 80 Women’s Volleyball campaign, in which the Lady Eagles finished in third place.
Last week, newly-appointed Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro already relayed De Leon’s uncertainty.
“The comment stays true,” De Leon said of Almadro’s statement last week, where he revealed that De Leon’s fellow seniors Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag had committed for Season 81.
“As of now, matagal pa naman ‘yung season so I also wanna rest for a bit para wala muna akong isipin na commitments or responsibilities,” added the 21-year-old blocker, who just finished her undergraduate degree.
“Eventually naman, I’ll make a sure decision regarding that question.”
De Leon admits that Almadro’s hiring as head coach will play a huge factor if she decides to return.
“Malaking factor ‘yung incoming coach. Coach O, as we know, legend rin siya. He’s done great things with the Ateneo men’s team. If ever man, I’d look forward to that,” she admitted.
For now, De Leon is thankful for the clamour of fans on social media who have been dilligently campaigning for her to return.
“It’s very overwhelming, the support from the fans. Thanks for that. Whatever I decide to do, I hope that you guys stay by my side.”
