Battle of the Rivals raises over 3M for Rebisco scholars

From all fronts, last July’s Rebisco Battle of the Rivals was a success. Not only did the event trend worldwide on social media and rate high on the television, the event raised a total total of 3,169,161 pesos for the scholars of Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle Univeristy, and the Rebisco Scholarship Foundation.

Earlier today in a ceremony at the Oakwood Premier in Pasig City, the players, coaches, and officials celebrated the success of the event, were presented with the checks of the raised funds, and raised hopes for a sequel next year.

“More than playing with your teammates and your rivals again, it was very gratifying for us to play for the scholars of our schools. Para sa kanila talaga ‘yung game na ‘yun and sa mga fans ng both teams,” said three-time UAAP MVP and former Ateneo Lady Eagle Alyssa Valdez.

“For sure, we’d want to do this again. Ilang beses na din kasi before may plans to do something like this pero ngayon lang talaga nag-push through,” added four-time UAAP champion and former La Salle libero Melissa Gohing.

The Battle of the Rivals also garnered a 1.97 TV rating, the same average rating of a UAAP Finals match. This was an amazing feat, considering the game was shown on a delayed telecast three days after the actual match.
