Ateneo de Manila University-Fudgee Barr finally entered the win column of the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference in its fourth outing.
The Blue Eagles, spearheaded by four players in double figures, trounced veteran Army-Katinko, 32-30, 25-15, 16-25, 25-15, on Saturday at the Paco Arena for a 1-3 win-loss card.
But up next for Ateneo-Fudgee Barr is a familiar foe in Cignal, which leads the seven-team field along with National University-Sta. Elena at 3-0.
The HD Spikers are bannered by Ateneans Marck Espejo, Ysay Marasigan, Rex Intal, Chumason Njigha, and Manuel Sumanguid.
And for the current pool of Blue Eagles, playing against their seniors is a huge moment for them.
“Actually idol namin sila so isang napakalaking privilege and opportunity na makaharap namin sila sa game,” said Kennedy Batas, who dropped 17 points on 14 attacks, two blocks, and an ace against the Troopers.
“Still, a-apply namin ‘yung system na meron kami and hopefully we can do again ‘yung ginawa namin kanina,” he added, referring to their spectacular performance against Army-Katinko Oil.
On the other hand, Ateneo-Fudgee Barr coach Timothy Sto. Tomas, who played for the university from 2004 to 2009, is glad that his wards will have the opportunity to face the Spikers’ Turf defending champion.
And most especially, go be a sponge against the veteran squad.
“It’s a good opportunity for us na makalaban ‘yung isang champion team. Veterans na ‘yung mga ‘yun so we have a lot to gain going against them.”
