BaliPure ends PVL campaign at eighth, drops Perlas to ninth

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Bern Flora took charge as BaliPure snapped its five-game losing streak to end its Premier Volleyball League on a high note via a four-set win over Perlas, 24-26, 25-19, 25-17, 26-24, on Saturday afternoon at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center.

The Water Defenders — a team that definitely turned heads this conference — ended their campaign with a 3-6 standing.

“Yun naman sinabi naming sa players naming since wala na tayo pag asa sa final 4 might as well do our best and finish the season strong,” said BaliPure head coach Rommel Abella.

Down by one in the third set, Flora unleashed a cross-court hit to lock the scores at 24-all. Flora then delivered two consecutive hits to end the match.

Graze Bombita unleashed a game-high 19 points off 14 attacks and five booming aces in the win.

Flora, who played the singlehandedly fended off Perlas’ rally, finished with 13 points and 12 excellent receptions while Sati Espiritu and Gen Casugod added 12 and 10, respectively.

Alina Bicar steered the offense with 24 excellent sets laced with 17 excellent digs and three points.

On the other hand, Sue Roces led Perlas with 13 points while Chery Nunag added 10 markers in the loss.

Defensive ace Jellie Tempiatura tallied 18 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions while Gel Cayuna dished out 34 excellent sets along with 10 digs.

The Perlas Spikers capped off its roller coaster season with a 1-8 standing.
