Bali Pure shoots down Air Force, posts second win in a row

Bali pure Purest Water Defenders sustained momentum from their win against BOC last week with another victory against Philippine Air Force Lady Jet Spikers via sweep, 25-22, 25-19, and 25-21, in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference Monday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

American reinforcement Kate Morrell topscored for the Purest Water Defenders with 19 points off 17 attacks. Dzi Gervacio supplied 10. Kaylee Manns produced 41 excellent sets in tonight’s victory.

Bali Pure’s streaking offense paid dividends right away in the opening set, helping them erect a 20-13 lead. Air Force, on the other hand, fought back from the wide lag to close in, 21-19, but ran out of gas late as Morrell and Gervacio joined hands to bring Bali Pure up by a set, 25-22.

Bali Pure sustained the upper hand all throughout the second set. With Air Force drowning on errors, the Purest Water Defenders led by as much as four and went closer to winning the set, 22-18. The Jet Spikers tried to come back, but three straight miscues sent Bali Pure with a 2-0 set lead, 25-19.

With their backs against the wall, Air Force took the upper hand early in the last set. However, errors became their problem once more, allowing Bali Pure to crawl back and snatch the lead, 17-14, midway. From there, Bali Pure took the driver’s seat, withstanding their own errors to come out victorious, 25-21.

“We’re very happy with the win,” said Bali Pure team captain Charo Soriano postgame, regarding her team’s second straight victory, which sends them to a 2-1 slate similar to Pocari Sweat.

“It was a good win for us. Everyone was in-sync tonight. We became consistent in this game compared to the last few games, so I think it’s a good sign,” Soriano added.

Jocemer Tapic was the only Lady Jet Spiker to hit double-digit scoring, pacing Air Force with 10 markers.

Bali Pure (2-1) will try to make it three in a row against UP Lady Maroons on Saturday, October 22. Air Force, now down at 1-3, will look to bounce back against Philippine Coast Guard this Wednesday, Oct 19. Both matches are set at 4 PM.
