After University of Santo Tomas’ UAAP Season 85 campaign ended, Bal David had hoped for one more year to rebuild the Growling Tigers.
“Grabe struggles and adjustments,” said David after UST’s last game in Season 85. “Marami kaming struggle, pero I keep telling the kids (na) wag lang sila mag-qui-quit.
“Struggle after struggle. Kailangan same direction kami. Walang mag-qui-quit, bibitaw, and all.”
However, the 50-year-old Tomasino will not be there for next season.
David tendered his resignation to UST’s Institute of Physical Education and Athletics on Thursday afternoon and has informed the Growling Tigers of his decision, multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed to Tiebreaker Times.
The former Ginebra guard was hired by UST to coach its men’s basketball team last July – just two months before the season opened.
David could only steer the Growling Tigers to just one win. They finished the season with a 1-13 record.
He admitted, though, that he also had his faults.
“Madami akong dapat pag-aralan kasi iba’t ibang karakter ang mga bata,” said the rookie head coach.
Now, UST will begin its search for a new head coach. The good thing about it is that Season 86 is still nine months away.
