B.League: Thirdy misses game-tying free throw as Dwight, Toyama sweep series

Thirdy Ravena’s best game with San-En ended up in heartbreak as Dwight Ramos and Toyama took a 90-89 win in the 2021-22 B.League season, Sunday at Toyama City Gymnasium.

Up by just a solitary point with 52 seconds left, Ramos knocked down a bucket to give the Grouses an 88-85 lead.

After a miss by Joshua Smith, Ravena knocked down a clutch trey with two seconds left to tie things up.

A quick play by Toyama led to a corner jumper by Keijuro Matsui with 0.6 seconds remaining.

Off a timeout, Ravena was able to fish a foul from Bryce Johnson that sent him to the stripe. Ravena made the first but missed the second as time expired.

Ravena would drop down to his knees in tears afterward as San-En suffered its sixth straight loss, falling to 3-11 in the west.

Ravena had a career-high 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting with nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Ramos, on the other hand, had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as Toyama raised its record to 4-10 in the west.

Joshua Smith also had a double-double for the Grouses with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Julian Mavunga added 12 points and 11 assists.

Matsui and Naoki Uto chipped in 11 points each for Toyama as well.

Robert Carter complemented Ravena with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists while Yoshiyuki Matsuwaki got 14 points. Justin Knox also had 12 points.

Ramos and Toyama will continue their campaign in the Emperor’s Cup on December 1 when they face Kawasaki.

Meanwhile, Ravena and San-En return to action on December 4 against Mikawa.
