B.League: Dwight Ramos, Toyama take round one vs Kiefer Ravena, Shiga


Dwight Ramos and Toyama got a much-needed win, handing Kiefer Ravena and Shiga their ninth straight loss after a 107-102 win in the 2021-22 B.League season, Saturday at Ukaruchan Arena.

Ramos and Ravena delivered in their first-ever match-up with the former tallying 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists while the latter had nine assists, eight points, and two steals.

And it was Ramos’ clutch bucket that helped the Grouses in the late breakaway.

Down by 96-97 with 2:50 left, Ramos cooly calmed a jumper to put Toyama up for good.

Julian Mavunga took things from there, scoring five points in a 5-1 spurt to extend the lead of Toyama to with 1:35 left.

Ravena tried to will the Lakestars late, scoring on two free throws to slice the lead down to two 104-102 with 30 seconds left. But time was not on the side of Shiga.

Mavunga had a monster game for Toyama, who rose to 5-12, with 37 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and three steals.

Bryce Johnson got 25 points, seven rebounds, and five assists while Keijuro Matsui added 16 points.

Shiga, who fell to 6-11, had Ovie Soko as its lead man as he dropped 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Novar Gadson got 18 points while Tomomasa Ozawa and Sean O’Mara got 13 and 11 points respectively.

The two squads square off again tomorrow.
