First year De La Salle University head coach Aldin Ayo turned an “unpredictable” Green Archers into a ragtag, blue-collar team in his first six months as head coach.
In their three games in the 2016 FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup, the Green and White has won with a margin of 16.3 points per game. Moreover, the Taft-based squad has embraced Ayo’s trapping defense that helped regain the team’s lost swagger after a dismal UAAP Season 78 outing.
Ayo, however, is still not satisfied with the effort his team is displaying in the preseason tournament. “Yung effort kulang pa,” he said. “Lagi ko pini-preach na they have to play desperate basketball na tipong ubusan, I have to squeeze everything.”
The NCAA champion coach added that when he sees a Green Archer cramp up in a game, he can fully say that the team has embraced his system. “Hinihintay ko nga na may mag-cramps sa amin because that means na napiga mo na talaga. Ngayon, wala pang nag-cracramps,” Ayo shared.
“Siguro magaling lang talaga yung conditioning coach namin or siguro yung nutritionist namin talagang ginagawa niya trabaho niya. Or baka hindi pa talaga napipiga ng players ko yung dapat pa nilang gawin.
“If I see somebody cramping (up), masasabi ko na na naa-absorb na nila sistema namin,” Ayo closed.
Ayo will face a familiar foe on Saturday, May 21 as the 3-0 Green Archers face Jamike Jarin and the San Beda Red Lions at 5:00pm. Games will still be played at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
